The trip from Dudley's Marina was filled with all sorts of interesting sights, sounds and activity...

This part of the venture took me past Camp Lejeune which practices maneuvers across the ICW and over into the Atlantic Beaches. This is government land, and restricted for military use. It is so sad that it is some of the most beautiful beach in the country, but they have to practice this stuff somewhere.

When I started into the restricted water, there was a military boat sitting there waiting... I thought he was going to stop me, but he told me to try to make as good a time as possible thru the region as they were going to close it for firing practice within the hour. As I neared the middle of the region, I could hear big military helicopters all over the place, although no firing yet. When I got to the end of the area there was another military boat stopping traffic from the other direction. I was concerned that they would not open the bridge for me, it is supposed to open on the hour and half hour, and it did not open at 9:30 - I was there at 9:10. However they opened at 10:00 for me - although not for the folks waiting on the other side to enter.

This whole range was filled with birds of all description. I saw bald eagles (again!) and hundreds of egrets, some otters at play, untold bird song and just gorgeous surroundings.

I was also sure I was going to get stuck in another storm, but it never happened, in fact as I write this, the sky is hazy but clear! I am hoping to make good distance tomorrow and am getting up at 4:30 (!) to insure that I get out of here early. We'll see. If the weather degrades again, I'll have to just do a short hop.

This is a great marina, folks are friendly, very helpful and they also do engine and boat work. I'd certainly stop here again.
